Sassy Saturday is such a unique and fun idea. This is certainly not a pitch, although why wouldn’t you? It’s a great way to get pampered (which every woman deserve, which YOU deserve!), receive wonderful themed photographs AND it fits in everyone’s budget. I recently had the pleasure of experience the first Sassy Saturday as a client and as intern.
January’s theme for Sassy Saturday was “boudoir.” Now, this is something I’m not comfortable being in front of the camera. I’d much rather prefer to be shooting than in a negligee – but I can’t stress enough how comfortable any woman would feel with Jacki behind the camera. Plus it was a good way to experience and gain knowledge on client perspective as well as for my internship! My experience was less formal but you get a coupon book that includes all different discounts at local shops and boutiques, majorly discounted professional photographs, a massage, make-up done on site plus a jewelry styling/items to wear in your shoot. It’s seriously a bargain to get all this for under $100!
The day seemed hectic but had a good flow to it. I spent most of it making sure everyone got what they needed, be it clients asking questions, Jacki needing a reflector holder or just being one step ahead. It was fun being surrounded by gorgeous women of all sizes. The studio space was yet again transformed from a tiny space to several different backdrops. We used the floor, what I call “the boards” – removable hard back drops with different colors – and several props to produce the gorgeous photos.
I really love the way boudoir translates when it is done properly! So often I see photographers who don’t translate class into their boudoir photos and it comes off mundane and even sometimes trashy. But you can really get beautiful classy photo’s and we do it right! All of our models were gorgeous in their boudoir wear, the jewelry consultant was a gem to work with and as always Caylin (who does hair/makeup also doubles as a model for Jacki) was fabulous. It’s funny how networking can seem like just hanging out!
One of the clients felt she wasn’t cut out for boudoir and was absolutely dead wrong. Her photos turned out to be some of my favorite from the day! We had a variety of strong beautiful women of all sizes and it just goes to show you that everyone has insecurities for every body type. It was very humbling but also showed me ways to make the client more comfortable that I wouldn’t have thought of! Keeping it light and a fun “all about you” atmosphere is the aim and it works well.
As a “client” I was so pleased! With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it was a perfect way to show off for my future husband (even though we aren’t huge V-Day people, it was still fun!). I didn’t feel at all self-conscious with Jacki – even though I consider her a friend, I was a little nervous! But the room was full of laughs and smiles. Plus is there anything better than the feeling of having your heels in the air, your hair and make up done with your favorite nightie on? They were a big hit with my fiancee and classy enough that I could post some on Facebook – the illusion of nudity really brings up the glamour factor. I even showed my mom and the only shock factor was my bright pink hair! Sassy Saturday really is a wonderful event that every woman deserves to participate! Makes me wish I didn’t have to miss out on the Old Hollywood Theme!
